Batman Begins (2005) - Codes and Conventions

Batman Begins

In Batman Begins it easily shows that the film is part of the superhero genre because of the codes and conventions that can be found within the film. One of these codes and conventions that can be found in the film is the backstory of the Bruce Wayne, the backstory was how Bruce's parents were shot and killed in his arms, and also how he has his fear of bats. It also tells the audience why Bruce becomes batman which is to get revenge for the death of his parents and to stop crime in Gotham.Another feature that is common in the superhero genre is the different array of character types some of which are the Hero, Batman and the Helper Alfred, Princess Rachel, Villain Scarecrow. These character types are found in many superhero movies to clearly point out to the audience that this is a superhero movie.

Spiderman (2002) - codes and conventions

Spiderman

Spiderman has many different types of genre conventions that relate to the superhero genre, and show the  audience what type of genre it is. The film has over the top, bright costumes. Spiderman wears a tight, red and blue tight suit with a logo of a spider on the front, while the Green Goblin wears a bright green set of armor with a green goblin helmet, with yellow eyes, and an open mouth. The costume of the characters is an important part of the superhero genre as it shows what the character represents, but also hides the characters actual identity. with these costumes. It is also easier to identify who is the hero and who is the villain, Spiderman is in a bright blue and red costume, while the Green Goblin wears a green military armor and looks dangerous.

Another convention it uses is secret identities. Peter Parker keeps his identity a secret, for fear of someone close to him getting hurt. The Green Goblin, who is Norman Osbourne, picks up on a clue and realizes that Peter Parker is Spiderman, he attacks and terrorizes his aunt, which affects Peter and makes him realize that being a superhero could cause damage to people close to him.
Also included in Spiderman is the convention of super powers. Peter Parker is bitten on a science filed trip by a radioactive, genetically-modified super spider, which alters Peter's DNA to make him be able to have super strength, be able to climb up walls, and be able to fire webs out of his wrists. Norman Osbourne uses a special performance enhancing chemical gas which gives him super strength, but he goes a bit crazy.
All of the genre conventions, aswell as others which are in the film, clearly fit into the Superhero genre, and give the audience a clear idea of what genre the film is that they are about to watch.
